Ingredients

  • 1 lemon
  • 1 orange
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 bottle (750-ml.) dry red wine
  • 2 cups club soda or plain seltzer, chilled
  • 1/2 cup brandy
  • 2 tablespoons Triple Sec or Cointreau

Method

Step 1

Cut lemon and orange into 1/4-in. thick slices. Place the four end slices from the lemon and orange in a small saucepan; set aside remaining fruit slices. Add sugar and water to the saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Squeeze any juice from the cooked fruit into the syrup. Discard cooked fruit. In a 4-quart pitcher, combine syrup, wine, club soda, brandy, Triple Sec and remaining fruit slices. Serve over ice.
