Ingredients

  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 2-1/2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup vegetable shortening
  • 3/4 cup milk

Method

Step 1

Sift flour, cream of tartar, soda and salt. Cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles course crumbs. Add milk all at once, mixing until dough follows the fork around the bowl.

Step 2

Turn dough onto lightly floured board. Knead gently for 1/2 minute. Cut into 12 biscuits. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 450° for 12-15 minutes.
