Ingredients

  • 1 cup chocolate bits
  • 1-1/2 cups chopped nuts
  • 2 teaspoons shortening
  • 1/2 pound marshmallows (35 large)
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons creme de menthe
  • 3 tablespoons creme de cacao
  • 1-1/2 cups heavy cream, whipped

Method

Step 1

Line a 9-in. pie pan with aluminum foil. In the top of a double boiler over hot water, combine chocolate bits and shortening. Stir until morsels are smooth. Add nuts. Mix well.

Step 2

Spread evenly on bottom and up sides of file lined pie pan. Chill until firm, at least 1 hour. Lift chocolate shell out of pan. Peel off foil and place shell on serving plate. Chill until ready to use.

Step 3

In double boiler again, combine 2 tablespoons water, marshmallows, milk and salt over hot water until marshmallows melt. Remove from heat. Add liqueurs. Stir until blended. Chill in refrigerator until slightly thickened, at least 1 hour. Gently fold in whipped cream.

Step 4

Pour filling into shell and chill in fridge until firm, at least 1 hour.

If you don’t have a double boiler fit a glass or metal bowl into a small pot filled with a few inches of hot water. Don’t let the bowl touch the water. First bring the water to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and place the bowl with the ingredients on top. Or melt the ingredients in the microwave.
