Ingredients

  • 2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons margarine, divided
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 teaspoons vanilla extract, divided
  • 2-1/2 cups Bisquick baking mix
  • 3 cups oats
  • 1 package (12 ounces) chocolate bits
  • 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped nuts

Method

Step 1

Heat oven to 350°. Grease a jelly roll pan or cookie sheet. 17-in. x x 11-in or 15-in. x 10-in. are good sizes to use.

Step 2

Beat brown sugar, 3/4 cup margarine, eggs and 2 teaspoons vanilla until smooth. Stir in baking mix, and oats until uniform consistency.

Step 3

Heat chocolate chips, milk , 2 tablespoons margarine and salt in saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth. Stir in nuts and 2 teaspoons vanilla.

Step 4

Press about two-thirds of oatmeal mixture with greased hands in pan. Spread chocolate mixture over oatmeal layer. Drop remaining oatmeal mixture by tablespoonfuls onto top. Bake until light brown, about 30 minutes. Cool completely. Cut into bars.
